City Council Wrap-Up – August 14, 2017

City Council Wrap-Up – August 14, 2017

Tucker’s City Council met on Monday night for the first of two regular scheduled August meetings, looking at a pair of proposed developments in the City.

The first is a 19-unit residential development on Saren Court. The project was supposed to be up for a second read and vote, but the developer asked for a deferral to a later meeting. Council voted unanimously to approve the deferral. That project will now have a first read at the City Council meeting on October 23, with a second read and vote on November 13.

The bulk of the meeting was a first read and Public Hearing for the proposed “The Rise” development. Residents and stakeholders packed the City Council Chambers to weigh in on the 88-acre mixed-use project that would be located at the intersection of Hugh Howell Road and Mountain Industrial Boulevard. While City Council does not vote on a first read, they were able to ask substantive questions about some of the opportunities and challenges presented by the project. A final vote is scheduled for a special called meeting on August 30.

The City Council will reconvene for their final regular scheduled meeting of the month on August 28. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Annex (4228 First Avenue).
