City of Tucker Announces First-Ever TKR Summer of Fun
TUCKER, Ga. (May 22, 2018) – The Summer of 2018 is shaping up to be one to remember in the City of Tucker. The City announced Tuesday the first-ever TKR Summer of Fun, a series of monthly community engagement events to be organized by City staff in cooperation with business and community partners.
The series begins on Friday June 8 with “Movies on Main”. A block of Main Street will be shut down for a free 9 p.m. screening of The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman. Moviegoers will enjoy popcorn compliments of the City and refreshments provided by Village Burger.
On Tuesday July 3, the City of Tucker and Old Town Tucker Merchants Association (OTTMA) are teaming up for the “Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Spectacular”. The show, which will be staged on the practice field behind Tucker High School, will best be viewed from Main Street. Volunteers from OTTMA have organized a street festival including live music, food, drink and fun for all who come out.
The final event in the summer series will be the City’s second annual National Night Out celebration. Last year, more than 300 people came out to Idlewood Elementary School to meet police, new neighbors and Tucker’s elected officials. This year’s celebration will happen on Tuesday August 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Livsey Elementary School. Residents of the City of Tucker and neighboring areas are invited to come out for a free dinner provided by Chick-fil-A and to celebrate their community.
“Community engagement events are so important to strengthening the fabric of a city,” says Tucker City Manager Tami Hanlin. “Here in Tucker, our volunteer groups work tirelessly to stage some wonderful events throughout the year. We looked at the calendar and realized summertime was an opportunity to continue and really build upon those efforts.”
The TKR Summer of Fun will be sponsored by Jacobs, an international professional services firm that provides much of the staffing for the City of Tucker. Several other companies have stepped up to sponsor individual events including DeKalb Medical, InterDev and Tucker Brewing Company. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. If businesses are interested in sponsoring TKR Summer of Fun events, they can call City Hall (678) 597-9040 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
