PRESS RELEASE: Tucker Mixed-Use Project to be Decided at August 30 Special Meeting

TUCKER, Ga. (August 7, 2017) – Tucker’s Mayor and City Council will hold a special called meeting on August 30 to hold a second read and vote on the proposed 88-acre mixed-use development known as ‘The Rise’. The issue was initially scheduled to be taken up at the regular called meeting on August 28, but is being moved to a different date to accommodate the increased interest and complex nature of the petition.

“With public hearings for a comprehensive plan amendment, a rezoning petition and a special land use permit, this promises to be a long meeting that draws a lot of interest,” said City Manager Tami Hanlin, noting that when ‘The Rise’ went before Tucker’s Planning Commission last month, the meeting went more than four hours and drew an overflow crowd.

The City Council will still hold its meeting on August 28 to deal with other agenda items, while gearing up for an anticipated overflow crowd on August 30.

“We abide strictly by our Fire Marshal’s occupancy standards,” Hanlin explained. “We will have an overflow area set up where residents who don’t have a spot inside the City Council Chambers can watch the meeting on closed circuit television and still line up to offer public comment.”

A first read of the project, which will give the developer a chance to present details of the plan and the public a chance to weigh in, will be held on August 14. There is no vote at the time of a first read. It is an opportunity for the Council to hear input from everyone with an interest in the issue and then have a couple of weeks to consider it before casting a vote.

Tucker’s Mayor and City Council meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the City Hall Annex at 4228 First Avenue.
