UPDATE: Tucker City Hall Closed Monday, City Council Meeting Postponed

TUCKER, Ga. (September 10, 2017) – As the City of Tucker prepares for the impact from Hurricane Irma, City officials decided Sunday afternoon to close down City operations for Monday. That means City Hall will be closed and the City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. will be postponed.

As of Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service estimated tropical storm force winds will arrive in Metro Atlanta as early as Monday morning. Throughout the day Monday and into Tuesday morning, they are forecasting sustained winds between 40 and 60 miles per hour with gusts up to 80 miles per hour. This could mean downed trees and power lines, causing extended outages across the area.

In anticipation of Irma’s arrival, DeKalb County Schools have joined a number of districts across the Metro area in cancelling classes for Monday and Tuesday. In addition, DeKalb Sanitation services are postponed for Monday, with libraries, recreation centers and government offices also closed.

Decisions on whether City Hall will be open Tuesday will be made once weather conditions and power outages can be assessed. Tucker’s City Council meeting will be re-scheduled in the coming days, as well. The tuckerga.gov website, as well as Tucker’s Facebook and Twitter pages will have the latest updates and weather alerts as they happen throughout the next 48 hours.
