Community Development

The Community Development Department is responsible for managing building & permitting, code enforcement, fire marshal services, land development and planning & zoning. The department works with the citizens of Tucker and its development community, as well as the City’s elected officials.

Building and Permitting
  • The Building and Permitting Division serves to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by ensuring a safe building environment. This is achieved through the interpretation and enforcement of International and State Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical Codes, as well as other applicable regulations governing construction and land use.
    • Main tasks: permitting and inspection of building permits, demolition permits, trade permits, and sign permits.
Code Enforcement
  • The Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department works to promote and maintain safe and desirable living and working environments through compliance with city ordinances.
  • Our goal is to obtain voluntary compliance through the issuance of a Notice of Violation (NOV).
    • Main tasks: enforcement of all city codes and ordinances, multifamily code compliance program, nuisance abatement.
Fire Marshal
  • The Fire Marshal Division of Community Development helps ensure buildings are safe to occupy and that all required life safety systems are in working order.
    • Main tasks: enforcement of fire codes, Certificates of Occupancy for new buildings and new businesses, setting occupancy loads, annual inspections of existing businesses.
Land Development
  • The Land Development Division of Community Development works to maintain the natural environment and ensure high quality land development by overseeing tree removal, stream buffer protection, erosion and sediment control requirements, and the issuance of Land Disturbance Permits.
    • Main tasks: permitting and inspection of land development permits, city arborist, tree removal permits
Planning and Zoning
  • The Planning and Zoning Division of Community Development works to guide orderly growth and development of the city in accordance with the comprehensive plan and in the best interest and welfare of the people.
    • Main tasks: keeper of the code, rezonings, special land use permits, variances, business location approvals, assisting the public with local regulations, etc.
