Tucker Lowers Taxes Again
June 28, 2024
The City of Tucker adopted a rollback tax rate for the third year in a row for a total millage rate of 2.096 during their second meeting of the month Wednesday evening.
When Tucker initially incorporated in 2016, Tucker did not have a property tax, but once the municipality assumed responsibility of the Parks and Recreation Department in 2018 the City adopted a 0.9 millage rate for the 2019 fiscal year.
After establishing a solid financial foundation, Mayor and Council agreed to and adopted a rollback rate of .846 for 2022 and rolled it back again to .784 while adding 1.5 with the addition of providing Public Works services for a total millage of 2.284 in 2023.
“Our intention has always been and always will be to restrain and reduce taxes wherever we responsibly can,” Mayor Auman said during the meeting. “For the third year in a row we have approved a tax rate reduction while increasing and improving our level of service to our residents. This is real tax saving as compared to the backdoor increases passed along by other local governments and is certainly something to be celebrated!”
The ability to adopt a rollback rate is due to the residential and economic draw and viability of Tucker and is reflected in the property values assessed by DeKalb County every year which in turn increase the tax digest dollar amount. The rollback rate is calculated to maintain the dollar amount of the existing previous tax digest plus the estimated value of new properties added to the digest through community growth.
The Mayor and City Council of Tucker meet the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 1975 Lakeside Parkway, Suite 350B and all meetings are live streamed on tuckerga.gov
