City Council Wrap Up – 11.25.24
November 25, 2024
Happy Thanksgiving, Tucker!
The Mayor and City Council started the second meeting of November with a proclamation acknowledging Small Business Saturday®. Tucker is home to over 3,000 businesses with 88% qualifying as small businesses. Books and Brew owners Nathan Monga, Quinelle and Irene Bethelmie as well as Daren and Karen Gayle of Georgia Gifts and More were on hand to receive the proclamation.
The big news of the evening are the approved contracts for the dam rehabilitations at both Henderson and Johns Homestead Parks. The Lake Erin dam in Henderson Park is a Category One dam and has been deemed in poor condition. As the dam was in this condition prior to the City assuming its responsibility, DeKalb County has agreed to pay $1.4 million of ARPA money and the City will fund just over $1.1 million designated in the Capital Improvement Project Fund. The contract was approved unanimously.
Previously approved by Council for construction, the Johns Homestead dam contract was amended to add construction administration. The amendment passed with a 6-1 vote.
The agenda for the evening additionally consisted of three staff reports on upcoming agenda items, the October interim financials and the fleet management policy.
The Council also unanimously approved an amendment to the Tucker Code to provide for procedures relating to Community Redevelopment Tax Incentives and a contract for 14 new lights to be installed, owned and maintained by Georgia Power Company at the Tucker Town Green.
Tucker Mayor and Council will next meet on December 9 for the last meeting of the year. All agendas and recordings of past meetings are on the website at tuckerga.gov
