Team Tucker – Dede Musser
How did you get involved with the City of Tucker website?
I got involved very early in the cityhood process. I believe I was volunteer number two following Sonja Szubski and created the website and graphics that were used in the Tucker cityhood campaign. Following the successful referendum, I was the volunteer webmaster of the City’s first site before being hired part-time as a consultant.
What are some of the websites you’ve worked on previously?
I have worked on sites for any and everything from animal rescue groups and hair salons to commercial bus dealers. In addition, I have worked in some fashion on several local sites including Henderson Park Community Garden, Tucker Business Association, Tucker Civic and Tucker-Northlake CID.
What do you do aside from maintaining the City website?
I lay out this very magazine – InTucker – in addition to creating graphics for marketing campaigns, events and promotions. I also edit video projects for the City.
How do you stay up-to-date on the latest web and social media trends?
I attend conferences and workshops in addition to being a member of several Meet-Ups groups. But honestly, the best way to stay on trend is to constantly surf other sites.
Off The Wall
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy gardening (but not in the 90+ degree heat) and pottery. I was a founding board member of Henderson Park Community Garden and take pottery lessons at Tucker Rec when time allows. There is something truly gratifying about turning mud into functional items.
Are you an animal lover?
Absolutely. I have always had pets and feel that no home is compete without several. We currently have our amazing 17 year-old rescue dog and a feral cat that we rescued last year. I would have lots more pets if my dog was comfortable with them, but she rules the roost and at this age, we don’t want to upset her.
Do you have a favorite band?
I am a huge music fan and was lucky enough to see both Elvis and Led Zeppelin perform live but if I have to pick just one, I have to go with the Grateful Dead. I saw the Dead multiple times in Atlanta, plus a few times in Las Vegas, Red Rocks, Memphis, Chicago and Orlando. The day Jerry Garcia died, my boss at the time broke the news and sent me home for two days.
What is your most memorable sporting event?
That would easily be the Steelers-Falcons game of 2006 where I was lucky enough to be seated next to the man I now share my life with. After the game was over (Falcons won in OT) he offered me his 5x Steelers Super Bowl Champions hat saying as an Atlanta fan, it was the only way I would ever have one. We’ve been together ever since and now have Falcons season tickets. He looks good in red and black!
