Team Tucker – Josh Roth

What does a Building Official do?
All the fun stuff like plan review, code interpretations, inspections and manage the Building Department.

How did you get to this position?
I was in the private sector most of my life as a general contractor/developer. My dad had a construction company and put me to work every summer doing a different trade. So, it gives me some compassion for the situations that arise.

How much of your time is spent in the office vs. out on inspections?
70 percent in the office, 30 percent in the field.

What is the best part of your job?
I enjoy raising awareness about building safety and the importance of current safety codes and the role of code officials in creating safe, sustainable structures that communities can rely on for generations to come.

What is the one thing people need to know about Building and Permitting?
Building codes save lives and reduce recovery time when a disaster strikes.
