Project Overview
The City of Tucker acquired Fitzgerald Park in 2019. The need for a sports complex was listed in our initial Parks and Recreation Master plan adopted in 2018. This park will serve as the city’s sports complex with 1 football field (practice), 1 multipurpose turf field, and 3 baseball fields. This project will provide 2 concession facilities and restrooms on all fields. There will be parking added with accessibility throughout the park with connection between sidewalks and natural walking areas. There are plans for a playground and additional amenities as needed for future programing. The park’s maintenance facility will also be relocated to Fitzgerald Park.
DESCRIPTION:
The initial phase of this project was to upgrade the existing water and sewer system. This required complete replacement of the water main within the park and tying into the existing sewer system with new lines. This phase was completed in the summer of 2023 and the second phase of renovation was ready to begin. The second phase will include new entrance/exit drives with an improved stormwater system, additional parking, new facilities, a turfed multipurpose field and new LED lighting on all fields.
OBJECTIVES:
- Create an updated sports complex for the city’s growing youth and adult sports leagues, possible district, state, and regional sports tournaments.
- Expand the parking for the city’s sports complex with improved access.
- Provide the surrounding neighborhoods with a walkable, family friendly park.
- Build and improve the park maintenance facility to provide our maintenance crews with a safe and workable site.
- Improve stormwater controls and runoff.

Project Updates
Timeline UPDATE (1 Feb 2024):
This project is currently under construction. The infrastructure (water/sewer) portion has been completed (Jun 2023) and the larger, renovation phase has started. This phase is currently 20% complete. The appropriate structures have been demolished, the turf field preparation is underway, the new retaining wall for the expanded drive is nearing completion and the foundation for the new restroom/concession building is also underway. There is still a lot of work to be done but we anticipate completion in early summer 2024.
