Project Overview

The City of Tucker acquired a lot (1.88 acres) to the rear of Local 7 from the Cofer family in late 2021.  A downtown park/community gathering space was listed as a critical addition to our park system in our initial Parks and Recreation Master plan adopted in 2019.  This park will serve as the city’s gathering space for events, concerts, movies, and family activities.  There will be parking added with accessibility throughout the park with a connection by sidewalk to Main Street, water features, play areas, visitors plaza with shade added, and a pavilion/performance area with walking areas.          

DESCRIPTION:

With the City of Tucker’s commitment to quality parks and outdoor activity and the desire to create a downtown activity space, the city acquired the old Cofer storage lot on Railroad Avenue.  The park plan was completed and adopted in February 2023, and now the construction of this exciting project begins.  The general scope of work for this two-acre town center park includes earthwork, improvement and addition of park utilities, proper stormwater detention, roadwork to improve Railroad Avenue with additional downtown parking, restrooms, fountains, landscape features, site furnishings a custom pavilion, and irrigation.

OBJECTIVES:

• Create a community gathering space for the citizens and downtown patrons and businesses.
• Create a space for the community’s growing activities and events. 
• Expand the downtown’s walkability. 
• Move the existing power lines underground to improve the visual aspect of the downtown and park area.
• Improve stormwater controls and runoff for this park, surrounding businesses/homes and Railroad Avenue.

PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:

• February 2022 – Park master plan proposal by Barge Consulting approved by Mayor and Council 
• September 2022 – Council and public presentation and discussion  
• November 2022 – Second Council and public presentation  
• January 2023 – Final presentation with adoption by Mayor and Council 
• February 2023 – Approval of design and engineering contract with Barge Consulting with workshops for Council input. 
• April 2023 – update presentation by Barge Consulting on the project design 
• July 2023 – second update presentation by Barge Consulting on the design for Mayor and Council input. 
• September 2023 – Third update presentation by Barge Consulting on the design for Mayor and Council input. 
• January 2024 – Barge Consulting begins the construction documents and bid packet phase for the construction of Tucker Town Green. 
• May 2024 – Bid packet issued. 
• July 2024 – Contract awarded to Hasbun Construction for Tucker Town Green
