City Council Wrap Up – 5.13.2024

The Mayor called May 13’s City Council meeting to order at 7 p.m. and welcomed all-girl BSA Troop 129 to the front to lead the pledge. He then presented a replica of the US-78 and Mountain Industrial Boulevard interchange sign to Senator Stephen B. Henson, after whom, the interchange was named.

After the unanimous approval of the consent agenda, which included last month’s meeting minutes and two small stormwater repair contract awards, ConnectSouth presented an update about the 2024 Georgia General Assembly. Finance Director Beverly Hilton presented the most recent Revenue and Expenditure Report. City Manager John McHenry followed her presentation with a report on potential future agenda items and milestones leading to the adoption of the FY25 budget.

The Mayor and City Council unanimously approved a contract award for the Montreal Road Sidewalk Design to Keck & Wood for $94,890.

Next came the first read and public hearing of a special land use permit and concurrent variances for a Jim N/ Nick’s Management, LLC drive-through restaurant at 4800 Briarcliff Road, NE.

After this, Economic Development Director Jackie Moffo presented the intergovernmental agreement between the City and Tucker Public Facilities Authority for leased parking at Tucker First Baptist Church consisting of 101 shared parking spots. The Mayor and City Council approved the agreement unanimously. Moffo then discussed the parking lot improvements required for the lease agreement with Tucker First Baptist Church, and City staff recommended that the contract be awarded to The Surface Masters for $86,291.67. Council approved the award unanimously.

The Mayor and City Council recessed to executive session at 9:44 p.m. and returned to take no action and adjourn the meeting at 11:52 p.m.
