City Council Wrap Up – 11.13.2023

Mayor Auman celebrates Small Business Saturday with Tucker business owners.

Tucker’s Mayor and Council met for their first meeting of November on Monday with Councilmember Monferdini participating via Zoom and Councilmember Orlando receiving an excused absence. BSA Troop 876 out of Eastminster Presbyterian led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a presentation of a proclamation in support of Small Business Saturday ® on November 25, 2023 to Gavin and Chloe Lee of Bite of Korea and Candice Spicer of My Vintage Home. The Mayor then introduced Marti Coleman, Team Tucker’s newest addition as Procurement Accountant.

The evening’s business started swiftly with a 6-0 vote to approve the agenda followed by a 6-0 approval of the consent agenda consisting of the previous month’s minutes, a lighting agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation and the adoption of the DeKalb County Hazard Mitigation Plan. There was a second read and public hearing of an ordinance to amend the official zoning map for the City relating to identified properties along Lawrenceville Highway between Cooledge and Brockett Roads. The Mayor and Council voted 5-1 to approve the amendment.

The Mayor and Council then voted 6-0 to approve a text amendment to Chapter 46 Zoning to the City code, including changes to adult entertainment establishment regulations.

In New Business the Mayor and Council heard first reads for two text amendments concerning changes to the scheduling of special land use permits and to create a traffic calming article in chapter 38.

Tucker then approved six contracts for landscaping, design projects and stormwater issues, the most exciting being the creation of a new part-time position in partnership with the DeKalb Community Service Board for a caseworker to serve as a dedicated resource to the City and to address the needs of unhoused individuals. The caseworker will provide crisis services: assessment, support, intervention, stabilization, observation and liaise with further resources for recovery.

The regular meeting was recessed to executive session for the purposes of personnel, real estate and litigation. No action was taken and the meeting adjourned at 11:44 p.m.

Tucker’s Mayor and Council will next meet on Monday November 27 at 7 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 1975 Lakeside Parkway, Suite 350B, Tucker, GA 30084
