Citizen of the Month – Beth Ganga
I would like to nominate Beth White Ganga as Citizen of the Month. For years, Beth has been the motivator for so many projects and service ideas for the benefit of Tucker. She’s the magic behind the curtain making it happen, yet always wanting to stay behind-the-scenes. After so many years of dedicated service to our community, I hope this honor gives her the recognition she has so greatly earned.
Beth and her husband Ray moved to the Tucker area many years ago and almost immediately Beth found a way to serve her new community. She started by joining Tucker Civic Association, where she has served on the board in a variety of roles. While in service, she innovated and helped create committees to champion our parks and our elderly. Through the vision and hard work of those committees Beth was able to help establish individual Friends groups for our Tucker parks. Her leadership and grant writing skills have benefited the whole community with new exciting park features as well as individual websites so each park can be found online. She continues to co-chair the Friends of Tucker Nature Preserve with me — and is instrumental to the incredible advancements and improvements being made at Johns Homestead Park. She continues her work with Friends of Tucker Path and the Tucker Lifelong Community — which secured the City of Tucker to receive the designation of an “Age-friendly City” by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Over the years Beth has sought out and written numerous proposals for a variety of grants to fund major projects in Tucker’s parks. I don’t know if I could tell you the whole amount, but I do know it’s a lot and it’s something to admire. She has an incredible ability to visualize needs and then connect the dots to make it happen. Once Tucker incorporated, this made the grants easier to qualify for and the City has matched or contributed several hundreds of thousands of dollars for large scale projects in Johns Homestead and other parks, thanks to Beth’s knowledge and dedication.
I feel like Beth is Tucker’s best hidden gem. She works tirelessly to improve our community and never seeks the glory of recognition. She is the highest example of The Tucker Way. Because of her efforts and keen ability to make things happen, Tucker is a better place to live, work, and play. Thank you Beth!
