It’s Time to Eat
Restaurant Week is Back & Bigger than Ever
It’s that time of year again, when we bust out our comfy pants and make a grand tour of Tucker’s restaurants. Tucker Restaurant Week is in its third year and is bigger than ever with an added day and many more restaurants.
Tucker Restaurant Week was created back in 2021 in collaboration with the City’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Discover DeKalb, in the hopes of generating business for local restaurants that struggled through the pandemic. Discover DeKalb’s partnership with the City is funded by the Hotel Motel Tax and regulated by the state to be used for marketing and generating tourism for Tucker. In 2021 this included t-shirts for restaurant staff, table tents, hotel rack cards, social media campaigns and ads in local magazines and radio. That year, all participating restaurants reported significant increases in sales and new customers, “This was an incredible opportunity and we were honored to be a part of it. We appreciate all of the effort put in by the city to highlight local restaurants” – Magnolia Room.
In 2022 the momentum continued with the creation of a Tucker Restaurant Week specific Instagram account, ads on streaming radio and more diversity in the social media influencers. This translated to increased sales over the previous year’s Tucker Restaurant Week for all participants and a notable uptick in new customers, “We estimate 4-5 customers per day came in because of Restaurant Week and of that number 1-2 were new customers.” – Grecian Gyro.
The third annual Tucker Restaurant Week planners have been hard at work for months, coordinating with the restaurants, building the website, and expanding the marketing plan. Discover DeKalb is facilitating geo-fenced advertisements on streaming local radio, print advertising and utilizing hyper-local influencers. The list of participating restaurants has grown and there are quite a few additional options for sweets, and all were excited and ready to start the week of delectable specials a day earlier than years past. “You may remember, last year my wife and I ate at 17 restaurants in five days. I don’t think that is going to happen again though, as we have well over 20 restaurants this year. We have some new participants, and it is really exciting, this is a big leap forward. I am going to devote myself to as much as I can!” Mayor Frank Auman.
In response to the amount of anticipated caloric intake during Tucker Restaurant Week, Mayor Auman has requested a Tucker Fit Week to follow. Tucker Fit Week is a challenge to ourselves and our citizens to get moving and will take place the week of February 27 through March 5. Later in this issue you will read about fun ways to participate in Tucker’s parks and recreation center, but Tucker does have a robust list of fitness opportunities (see insert) and several resident run Facebook groups. If you need some accountability and some fun check out the Tucker Running Club and Tucker Walks on Facebook for weekly scheduled times to explore Tucker on foot.
