Web Exclusive – Doug’s Den

Members of Smoke Rise Tennis Club celebrated a new amenity last month, cutting the ribbon on a refurbished pro shop and lounge that they’re calling ‘Doug’s Den’. The facility is named for beloved former tennis member Dr. Doug Torbush, who passed away on the court in 2015 from a heart attack.

“Doug Torbush would have wanted to bring everybody together,” Smoke Rise Tennis Committee member Art Wood said. “[He] would have wanted everybody to have a great time and would have wanted the place that he spent a ton of time, here at the tennis facility, to just be spectacular.”

‘Doug’s Den’ provides members and their guests a place to buy new racket frames and other tennis equipment, while also serving as a pre- and post-match location to unwind and watch tennis on television. It overlooks four clay courts and four hardcourts and sits adjacent to the Smoke Rise Country Club pool.
