Team Tucker – Lisa Owen
Tell us about the path that led you to work for Team Tucker…
For the last 20+ years, I have worked for small businesses managing their operations and finances. Prior to that, I was an internal auditor in both the private and public sectors after having started my career working for a large southern municipality. I suppose I’ve come full circle!
What made you want to come work in local government?
As a Tucker resident, I feel compelled to be involved and to understand the growth that Tucker is experiencing as a relatively new city. I love where I live and working for my local government is a way for me to contribute and grow my knowledge and skills.
What are your day-to-day job responsibilities?
I work directly with the City Clerk in many areas including open records requests and procurement. But I have the privilege of working with many different departments and learning from dedicated professionals.
Have you eased into your role or been thrown in the deep end?
Since my position is new for the City of Tucker, there is a LOT to learn and do. After having worked for small businesses for so long, I’m used to a steep learning curve, and I do love a challenge!
Off The Wall
Tell us about your family…
My husband Jamie is a retired teacher and he is now a home inspector for a fabulous company, Home Probe, Inc. Both our children, Gillum and Jay, are Tucker High School graduates. Gillum is carrying on the teaching tradition and teaches fifth grade in Gwinnett County. Jay is a freshman at Georgia College and State University studying Exercise Science. We love to camp and hike and see live music together.
How many pets do you have?
We have a brindle rescue pup, Tigger, a pit bull/boxer mix, who has mellowed in his old age (thank goodness) and loves to take long walks.
What’s your favorite season?
I love the mild temperatures and changing colors that the fall brings. Cooler temps mean sitting around our backyard firepit with friends and college football!
What was your favorite subject in high school?
English/creative writing was always my favorite. I am a voracious reader and devoted journal writer and honing those skills is a lifelong passion of mine.
