City Council Update

The City of Tucker Council met on September 11 for the first scheduled meeting of the month. The four items on the consent agenda were approved unanimously as well as the agenda for the evening. In old business the Mayor and Council unanimously approved a resolution to extend the moratorium on the acceptance and processing of applications for certain specified parcels along Lawrenceville Highway. A 6-1 vote on a text amendment to the Tucker zoning code to include a new zoning district along Lawrenceville Highway after a 2-5 vote to defer the initial vote. A second read, public hearing and unanimous vote was up next concerning a Single Land Use Permit (SLUP) for a personal care home in a residential neighborhood. The last item of old business regarding the SLUP for alcohol sales at a gas station on East Ponce de Leon Avenue was approved unanimously.

The meeting then moved to the new business on the agenda starting with a first read and public hearing on a text amendment to clean up language including changes to the Comprehensive Plan references. The City Attorney then presented the first read of an ordinance to amend the Tucker code to create Chapter 6 Animals. The Council and Mayor then unanimously voted to approve a contract for the bid on the construction of the Brockett Road Sidewalk project. Followed by a resolution to amend the budget for Fiscal Year 2024 that passed unanimously. The final item for the evening was an approval of an electric facilities franchise agreement with the City of Norcross and Norcross Power.

The City Council Work Session on the fourth Monday of September was comprised of four presentations: Downtown Park Engineering and Design, Financial Policy Updates, North South Connectivity Study and the City’s expansion of Flock security cameras. This meeting also recessed for executive session, but no action was taken upon the return of the Mayor and Council.
